To further show its authority over the colonists, Parliament sent more soldiers to North America.The soldiers were supposed to defend the lands won in The French and Indian War, instead most of the soldiers stayed in the colonies. This angered the colonists to the point that they began to throw rocks and ice balls at the red coats.

To discuss the effects the law had on the colonies. The colonists decided to write and send the "declaration of Rights and Grievances" to King George III. In this letter the colonists asked for their rights as British citizens living in the colonies.

What happened at Lexington and Concord?
The British army heard that the colonists were forming a small army in Lexington. They also heard that the colonists were storing weapons at Concord. When the red coats got to lexington they were surprised to find the colonists ready and waiting for them. This was because Paul Revere warned the colonists. When the red coats made it to Concord they found that colonists had moved the weapons and supplies. As the red coats began to march back to Boston, they were ambushed by the colonists.

The Olive Branch petition expressed the colonists' desire for a peaceful end to the fighting. It was not affective because by the time King George III received the petition, he had already issued he proclamation of rebellion.
