What is the fundamentalist approach to scripture? (essay 1)
The fundamentalist approach to scripture is characterized by being overly literal. That means they take every word only at face value and allow for no symbolic interpretation. They also do not consider the context of the writing, for example, the time and culture in was written in, the author's intention, the genre, the audience, etc. All these things can help us better understand the books of the Bible, but the fundamentalists don't use them.

What is the contextualist approach to scripture? (essay 2)
The contextualist approach to scripture is exactly the opposite of the fundamentalist approach because they do not take every word in the Bible literally, although some parts of the Bible are meant to be taken literally. They determine this by considering the context or circumstances in which the books of the Bible were written. This is the approach that the Church accepts because it allows for the literal sense of scripture and the spiritual sense to work together. It also helps us understand that faith is not opposed to modern science.
