Why do the events from Andover impact the events in Salem? 
Andover makes the court nervous that they may end up having issues. The witch trials in Andover were overthrown when people realized that they were not actually being tried fairly... witches were not in Andover. If the court showed any kind of sympathy towards the people it would show weakness in the court, which could essentially lead to the destruction of the court. This is also a fear for the court because it would destroy their reputations and make them look like murderers.

What happens when Abigail points the finger at Tituba? What do the other girls do in response?
Tituba is beaten and threatened by Reverend Parris until she finally admits to witchcraft and begs to be brought back to Jesus. When the others see she doesn't get in trouble, they confess too and point their finger at other people too.

Anne Putnam- She wanted Tituba to figure out whether or not her babies had been murdered and who had done it. 

Tituba conjured spirits for them because Abigail required her to do it.

When John Hale comes to Salem, he initially seems to think witchcraft is in the town. What does he do to show that he is wavering in his belief that witches are in Salem?
John Hale goes around talking to and testing people who have been mentioned in court before they are even put on a warrant for arrest. He tests them to see if their "Christian life" was good or if it was more akin to a witch

Thomas supposedly had his daughter Ruth claim George Jacobs was a witch because Thomas wanted his land.

Why is Parris so afraid for his safety in Act 4?
Overall, Parris is afraid for the destruction of his reputation as well as his potential to be murdered. 

Parris has discovered Abigail's disappearance, which shows that she may be guilty. If she is, in fact, guilty he has helped kill off several of the townsfolk. At this point, he has been threatened. Someone stabbed a dagger into his door in order to warn him that this should stop. He is afraid that the court will be overthrown and he will be killed.

Why doesn't Mary want to go to court with John in Act 2? 
She knows that the girls will turn on her and she will potentially die because she stood up to them.

What are some of the issues that came up in Salem before the witch ideas even started to show up? 
Land disagreements, Personal Vendettas, Other personal disagreements, Thomas Putnam wanted power in the community and didn't get the power that he wanted because his brother-in-law George Bailey didn't get to become a reverend, as well as the fact that there were various issues with jealousy.

What faults does Reverend Hale find in Proctor's faith? What explanations do they come up with for these faults?
Faults: He hasn't been going to church for a long time. His last child has not been baptized. He plowed on Sundays. 

Excuses: They disapprove of Parris, They were struggling to get by and had to do what they could to make it through

Why is Giles held in contempt of court? 
He refused to give up the name of his source because he was worried about what would happen to his source.

Why did Elizabeth want John to forgive her despite the fact he cheated on her? 
She thinks that it is her fault that John cheated on her because she was not pretty or as affectionate as he wanted her to be. She wanted to make him realize she cared even though it may not have seemed like it at the time. She also wanted him to forgive her in some ways because he was going to die and things could have been very different if their relationship had been different.

How does reputation play a role in this story? 
It is a big reason why things got as bad as they did and as quickly as they did. The women were able to take over some of the power within the story, because men of good reputation were unwilling to ruin their reputations. Instead, they were prepared to kill off other people to avoid looking like they had been fooled by children.

Why did John Proctor choose to wait so long to go to Salem to try and stop things? 
He didn't want to hurt Abigail or bring up the fact that he was an adulterer. By not hurting Abigail, he protected himself.

What importance does the Poppet play for Elizabeth? Abigail? Mary?
Elizabeth- The poppet is a gift from Mary. It ends up sending Elizabeth to jail for witchcraft.

Abigail- Uses it as a tool to get rid of Elizabeth, but when Mary tries to be honest for a minute, it almost exposed her as a lecher/liar.

Mary- was making it out of guilt, but it sort of proved that Abigail was either attempting to murder Elizabeth or that Elizabeth was a witch

Why does John admit to being a Letcher? Does it help the situation?
John admits to being a Letcher because he figures if Abigail is discredited by this major thing they could no longer believe her and the court would throw out her evidence. Unfortunately, it did not work.

Why was Giles Corey arguably the smartest person when it came to the trials at the end? 
Although he may have accidentally accused his wife of witchcraft, he figured out that saying yes he was a witch, or no he wasn't a witch were both bad options. Either way, the court was going to win and take his land, his life, or his soul. So rather than do something that would hurt his children or his soul, he chose not to say anything besides "more weight". This allowed him to be blameless and made it so the court couldn't take anything other than his life.

What does John Hale do when the court starts to turn against John, Giles, and Francis? What is his ultimate decision at the end of the day in Act 3?
Hale tries to get lawyers brought in so that honest people could defend themselves a bit better. However, Danforth and Hathorne told him that there really was no way to help them if they were witching people the only real evidence was the girls' experiences. 

Hale quit the court because he realized it was a sham.
