How do glow sticks glow?

There is a glass vile inside the glow stick, which usually contains a Hydrogen Peroxide solution (the activator). The vile is floating in a compound called Phenyl Oxalate Ester and a fluorescent dye. When you snap the glow stick, the two react, creating two other compounds: Phenol and Peroxy Acid Ester, which glow.
