They have helpers who bring them food, gifts, library books, etc. They have plenty of living space with a kitchen, running water, bathrooms, and bedrooms. They are able to listen to the radio and take correspondence classes.

Because he is more reserved and doesn't open up to her as much as she wishes he would.
