This centers on the form of an argument.
What is Formal Logic?
This acts by inference from propositions accepted as true. It’s black or white, not gray.
What is Deductive Logic?
This is the reasoning process of arriving at new information.
What is Inference?
This reduce vagueness and ambiguity (use of a word).
What is a Precising Definition?
This contains the minor term and is the second premise in a properly structured syllogism.
What is a Minor Premise?
This deals with ordinary language and emphasizes the weight of the evidence in a proposition.
What is Informal Logic?
This acts by generalization from evidence observed and compiled. It’s strong or weak, not guaranteed.
What is Inductive Logic?
This is the recognizing, naming, and classifying process of an object or concept.
What is Simple Apprehension?
These are words found in the dictionary (root of a word).
What is a Lexical Definition?
This appears in both of the premises but not in the conclusion of the syllogism.
What is a Middle Term?
This is a single declaration of facts or opinions.

This describes all of the members belonging to a term; it’s less specific.

These are built upon a certain philosophy (view of a word).

This appears in the minor premise and is the subject in the conclusion of a syllogism.
What is a Minor Term?
When an argument is deductive and formal, consisting of two premises followed by a conclusion.
What is a Syllogism?
This deals with categories and the symbols that represent an argument.
What is Categorical Logic?
This identifies which entities are members of a class; it’s more specific.
What is Intension?
These are created to add clarity (make up a word).
What is a Stipulative Definition?
This appears in the major premise and is the predicate in the conclusion of a syllogism.
