Jackson walked down the secret passage. He couldn't believe what he had found in this old mansion out in the middle of nowhere in Wyoming. The moon had illuminated the mansion, which had made it easy to find. Jackson was glad it had been snowing: it made him bring his warm winter jacket, and he certainly needed it walking down this cold corridor.
How might we read these two stories differently? Story A, third person narration, narrator tells us a purple unicorn visits the main character. Story B, first person narration, the main character tells us he witnesses a purple unicorn enter his house.
Story A we realize something wild is happening, but the main character is probably still mentally competent. Story B, its entirely possible the main character is losing his mind.
