What is a massacre?
On March 5, 1770, an event worse than a street fight occurred in Boston. A crowd gathered around a lone British soldier on guard duty and started shouting insults and throwing snowballs. The frightened soldier called for help, and more British soldiers arrived. For reasons that are unclear, the soldiers turned their guns on the angry crowd and started shooting. Five colonists were killed or wounded.
