1. New York's distance from the equator affects its climate. Heat energy from the sun is strongest at the equatir.As you move farther from the equator, temperatures are usually lower. 2. Elevation. Usually, the higher a place is, the colder the climate will be. Places in the Adirondack Mountains have the coolest summers and coldest winters in New York. 3. Large bodies of water such as the Great Lakes and the Arlantic Ocean affect climates. This is because the temperature of large bodies of water changes more slowly than the temperature of air. Cities closest to the water will be cooler in the summer and a little Warner in the winter.
