I can infer that the pilot broke a rule by speeding off in the jet. Some possible explanations for his rule breaking could be he was confused or he may have been trying to escape.

Dream-telling begins at the age of?

400

In the Chief Elder's speech to the new twelves at the Ceremony of Twelve, she says, "Today, we honor your differences." Is this surprising? Why or why not?

Jonas's community values uniformity above all else; children are taught to fit in to standardize their behavior, and to curb any impulse that might set them apart from the group. Now, suddenly, differences are to be celebrated. But these are socially defined differences, filling prescribed niches in the community, rather than true expressions of individual choice.

400

Why can't even the Giver bring back certain things to the community?

He only has a lot of honor, but not a lot of power.

400

Why can't everyone in the community have the memories?

Everyone would be burdened with pain.

500

What happens when Asher and Jonas are tossing the apple on the playground?

Jonas does not have words to explain what he sees. While watching the apple move through the air, Jonas noticed it suddenly, for a moment, "changes." We can infer that it changes color, size or shape.

500

Why does Jonas refrain from praising Benjamins accomplishment, despite his admiration?

I can infer that this conversation might easily fall into bragging territory, a minor infraction.

500

Which rule in Jonas's packet terrifies him, and why?

Jonas's instructions say that he may lie makes him wonder if other twelves have been given this same sanction. What if adults lied all the time?

500

What horrific memory does the Giver pass to Jonas that lets him know what happened to Lily's comfort object.

The memory of poachers killing all the elephants for their tusk.

500

Why did the Giver tell the community not to shoot down the plane?

He knew the pilot was lost and he also knew people do bad things when they are afraid of things they don't know.
