The Movie and Book have similar, but different endings. Give a detailed breakdown of each of them.

The Book: The final scenes are a hallucinatory, metaphorical vision. Jonas finds a sled at the top of a snowy hill and rides it down toward a colorful, glowing house echoing with Christmas music. The book ends ambiguously, suggesting that Jonas and Gabriel may have succumbed to the cold and are experiencing a dying dream, or that they have actually crossed over into an afterlife or a magical border of "Elsewhere"

Movie: The ending is literal and definitive. After crashing down a mountain on a sled, Jonas and Gabriel physically discover the exact cottage from one of the memories the Giver shared with him. The warmth/music/memories spread back to their home community.

What emotion is Jonas beginning to understand when he becomes deeply concerned for Gabriel's safety? Where did he first discover this emotion?

Love. In the Christmas memory given to him by the Giver.
