Floods can make bodies of water overflow, they can wipe out bridges and housing, and they can spread toxic materials all around.
How is the economy affected when an area's natural resources are destroyed?
You can not use the materials and you can not sell them.
How can someone be impacted mentally if they lose their home?
Both not having a place to live and needing to pay loads of money for repairs, can take a toll on someone's mental health.
What happens to endangered species when their entire ecosystem is wiped out?
The endangered species will often go extinct.
What kinds of buildings and infrastructure usually have the biggest impact when they are damaged?
Typically bridges, roads, super markets, etc.
How do earthquakes cause destruction?
Earthquakes happen when techtonic plates under the earth's surface move around. Because of this, the ground will shake causing buildings to fall down. The ground also cracks creating deep sinkholes for things to fall into.
What happens to people when the economy is not in good shape?
Many people might lose their jobs.
How can having a lack of hope affect people's mental health?
People feel like they don't have control of anything and they might think that something like that will happen again.
How do people typically deal with storms?
They usually leave their homes temporarily and bring some of their possesions with them.
What happens to wildlife when their natural habitat is wiped out?
Many species may die out, because it is hard for them to find food.
How do wildfires affect an ecosystem?
Wildfires usually spread quickly through forests and burn down everything in their path. Animals have trouble surviving the smoke and intense heat, causing many of them to die out.
How is the economy affected when someone passes away?
If the person's job was important to making goods that are important, the economy can be slightly affected.
How can traumatic experiences affect someone's mental health?
If someone had to go through those things, they might have anxiety or they might get stressed about certain things.
How can storms change the way people live in affected areas?
Serious damage can be caused to people's belongings and home. Because of this people do not have places to live.
How can storms disrupt an area's food chain?
If one species' population is greatly reduced or if it goes extinct, two things can happen: First, the things that eat it will not have enough food, and second, the things that it eats might grow in population.
How does a tornado cause so much destruction even though they only last a few minutes?
Tornadoes use their insanly fast winds to whip debris around and to tear apart everything in it's path.
Why do people who have less money suffer worse economic changes?
It is harder for them to pay for repairs and if they don't have good insurance, they might have to sell their belongings for basic needs.
What sorts of things could cause anxiety after a traumatic flood?
Rainfall or the sound of rushing water can cause anxiety because they associate that with the flood.
How can the physical effects of a storm lead to mental and economic effects?
If someone's possessions are destroyed, they can be sent into financial debt. This can cause detrimental effects to the brain.
If a bridge in a town is destroyed, how does that effect the people living there?
It is harder to transport the goods they need and it is harder to leave the area.
How do storms like hurricanes cause so much destruction?
Hurricane winds blow debris all around, while the floods sweep away the housing and infrastructure.
How does a storm effect not only the economy in the town it's in, but also the surrounding areas?
If repairs are needed, other towns will have to pitch in to help. With the lack of some of these resources, the local towns will experience some of the same things.
How can losing a friend or family member affect someone's mental health?
If someone loses someone they care about the will start to miss them and feel lonely.
