What do people do for fun around here?
Go to events, clubs, hang out, go to the museum events, movies, saturday shuttle, field trips, things around Utica.
The school provides over 50 events a year which happen on campus and take students off campus. We have over 15 clubs that host events and RAs that also have events. All events are free for students. The Museum of Art has regular exhibitions and movies that are free for students. In the area around campus there are many restaurants, cafes, and shops. We offer a shuttle service on Saturdays to local shopping centers. We also have free yoga and boxing classes weekly.
My daughter has changed her mind about her major, what do we need to do?
The student would need to speak with the Registrar to begin the process of changing their major.
What should my daughter do, she met her roommate earlier today and they are not a good match?
Students are encouraged to work with their RA to collaborate on a suite agreement to establish rules and boundaries for roommates to adhere to. If the roommates are still having trouble getting along, they can set up a mediation meeting with their RA or Residence Life Coordinator to solve the conflict. Student Life requires students to wait until the first two weeks of the academic year before requesting to change room assignments.
Wait, what? It’s a smoke free campus? Where can I smoke?
We are a smoke free campus. However, we have designated smoking areas by Plant and Hart residence halls and next to the Studio Building.
If my daughter is in the studio real late and doesn't feel comfortable walking back to the residence hall alone, what should she do?
Your child should go on their Pratt Munson Safe App, an app that lets students communicate with Campus Safety. There is a feature they can request an officer walk back to their residence hall.
My son has had some medical problems over the last few years, what if he gets really sick, he doesn't have a car?
If your child is very sick they can tell their RA who can call an ambulance for them. Uber and Lyft are also widely available in Utica. Wynn Hospital is located just down the street.
We are not going to be picking my son up for Thanksgiving break, how can he get to the airport? He doesn't have a car.
The Utica Train Station is close to campus that students can take to the nearest airport in Syracuse. For transportation to and from the train station, students can take the bus or an Uber. A taxi to the airport will cost between $120-$160.
Are there part time jobs available on campus? Who does my daughter need to go see about that?
There are jobs available on campus in the form of work study. The student should talk to the Financial Aid Director in order to see if they qualify.
After his sophomore year, what does my son need to do in order to transfer to Pratt Brooklyn? What if he decides he wants to go to another school?
Students here automatically are relocated to the Brooklyn campus, without the need to apply. If the student wishes to go to another school, they will need to complete the transfer application process that school requires.
My son is a vegan, will the dining hall provide him ample food for his diet?
Our dining hall has many options for students and will always have a vegan option to eat at each meal. We recently got a new dining provider in order to increase the quality of food available.
What is the drinking and drug use culture like on campus? How many of the students party?
Drinking and drug use is not allowed on campus and would be in violation of our Code of Conduct. Any students who have violated our Code of Conduct are subject to a conduct hearing that may result in disciplinary action.
How can I check to see what my son's grades are at the end of the first semester?
Because of FERPA, you will not have access to your child’s grades unless they sign a release form that gives you permission to access them. You can ask Student Life or Registrar to obtain a release form.

I heard that the area near Dunkin Donuts is not very safe and that the homeless population is very prevalent just a block from campus. Is this area safe?
In every city there are going to be safety concerns. We have a robust campus safety department that has patrols and many cameras, as well as a Utica Police Dept officer who patrols the neighborhood. Student safety is our top priority.
