Explain what the Hunger Games are and why they take place.
Every year, one boy and one girl from each district are selected to serve as "tributes" in The Hunger Games, a vicious, last-man-standing competition where they fight to the death. There are no rules in the Hunger Games, and the competition takes place over several days in a large arena whose environment can be controlled and manipulated by the gamemakers. The Hunger Games are televised and broadcast to all districts as a punishment for the districts' failed rebellion against the Capitol.
