As each challenge on the Road of Trials passes, Percy relies on his own skills and knowledge more and more. This shows during his banter with Crusty and his confrontation with Hades.

When we meet Percy, he seems to have accepted that he will never do well at school. However, throughout the journey, Percy kept up the hope that his mother was alive and never gave up after each near death experience. This trait is strongly reflected in his behaviors.

Percy returns home with a new sense of confidence and understanding of the world around him, like giving his mother a chance to find the courage to battle her own problems, a willingness to continue the battle against the minions of Kronos and security in his identity as the son of Poseidon.

He also shows a commitment to continue his training as a hero in order to defeat Kronos instead of feeling overpowered. These are some traits that can be reflected in one or the other of these circumstances.
