Because it was not like the wells of the Sahara, the wells of the Sahara are mere holes dug in the sand. The well they found was like one in a village, but there was no village.

The little prince was strolling along, all alone, a thousand miles from any inhabited region because he was on his way back to the place where he landed, because tomorrow will be the anniversary of his descent to the earth.

On the anniversary of the day when the little prince first came to Earth, at the exact spot where he landed. He asks if the snake has good poison that will not make him suffer too long. It was one of those yellow snakes that take just thirty seconds to bring your life to an end. So the pilot dug his revolver out of his pocket, to try to shoot the snake.

He loosened the golden muffler that the little prince always wore. He moistened the little prince's temples, and had given the little prince some water to drink. His heart was beating like the heart of a dying bird, shot with someone's rifle.

It has a pulley, bucket, and rope all ready for use. The pulley moaned like an old weathervane, which the wind has long since forgotten. The pilot hoists the bucket up, because it is too heavy for the little prince to do.
What are two reasons why the little prince doesn't want the pilot to see him off tonight? But what thought reassured the little prince? Why did the little prince let the snake bite him?
Because it shall look as if the little prince was suffering and dying, so he doesn't want the pilot to see that. Also because the snake might bite the pilot too, since snakes are malicious creatures. But then he thought that snakes have no more poison for a second bite. So that he can go back to his planet and flower, his body is too heavy to carry with him.
Usually, what are stars? What are stars for travelers? What are stars for scholars? What were stars for the businessman? What will the stars be like to the pilot now?
They are little lights in the sky. For travelers, the stars are guides. For scholars, the stars are problems. For the businessman, they were wealth. In one of the stars the little prince will be living and laughing, so for the pilot it will be as if all the stars were laughing.
What is the great mystery now that is of so much importance? Why? What did the pilot forget to do? Or what could the little prince forget to do on some one evening, failing to protect the flower?
Has the sheep eaten the flower? Because when the pilot drew the muzzle for the little prince, he forgot to add the leather strap to it. So the little prince will never be able to fasten it on his sheep. The little prince could forget to shut his flower under her glass globe.
