why is this a change in character for Frenchie?

This is a change in character for Frenchie because he always wanted to go north because his family had sacrificed so much for him to live and now he needed to survive. Frenchie is characterized at the beginning as this kid that needs to survive because he feels like his family has offered way too much for him just to die, now he doesn’t feel like going north isn’t worth it anymore.

Wab has always been the strong fighter of the group, she doesn’t let the others see how things affect her, however, when RiRi dies and Minerva gets taken, Wab feels grief, grief that the others can see. This is a changing character because she’s not acting strong, she’s letting herself feel. She had to face herself and it made her more fragile.

The Miig the group knows is a calm, rational, caring man, however, in this case he lets his emotions and his rage take control of his actions. Something that isn’t typical of him.

She wouldn’t go up with the rest of the group because she had been irrational since RiRi died. Perhaps this pain of losing another kid was for too much for her, she gave up, she knew the recruiters were coming, and she didn’t want to fight anymore.

Everything changes after RiRi dies. This major change affected Frenchie by depressing him. Instead of being a kid would try to fool around with his new family, he was now a depressed teen, with no reason to keep moving forward.

Finding water was important to the group because they thought that all water had dried out when the war started, and water meant life, if they found water they would survive.

Relationships with a natural world that surrounds them is still important to the group into the story. This shows the connection that they have with nature, and since they have been on the run and tried to hide who they are, not a lot of them have it.
