They are the model images of a person or role, and are often incarnated as characters in myths, novels and films.

The hero starts off in a normal or even mundane situation and receives some time of information that leads him/her to the unknown.

This step or stage is about the things that may distract the hero and lead him/her away from the quest and mission.
What is temptation?
This situational archetype is when the good forces will ultimately be triumphant.
What is the battle between good and evil?
This type of person may be popular among their peers and unhesitant in expressing themselves.
What is an extrovert?
This type of character has been exiled for a crime and becomes a wanderer, causing problems and conflict.
Who is the Outcast/the Rebel?
The hero achieves the balance between the former life, and the new and improved life he/she has obtained from the quest.
What is the Master of Both Worlds?
This is the point where the hero actually begins the adventure, and is the last stage in the separation.
What is Crossing the Threshold?
This is a setting archetype where everyone knows everyone and judges them, so it represents intolerance.
What is the Small Town?
This contains a set of shared memories and ideas, which we can all identify with, regardless of the culture that we were born into or the time period in which we live.

This type of character seeks revenge and hates all.
What is the Evil Genius?
Sometimes the hero is in need of someone or something to lead him/her back to their normal life.
What is the rescue from without?
It's the achievement of the goal of the quest and what the hero set out on the adventure to get.

Distinct from our inner self, Jung noted that we each have a this- an identity which we wish to project to others.

This type assists the hero, and accompanies him/her on the quest.

This stage represents the hero's separation from the known world and the conscious decision to embark upon the quest.

This leads the hero to a state of divine knowledge and involves some type of death- either physical, spiritual, or symbolic.

This symbolic archetype represents heaven, perfection, and eternity.
What is the circle?
Jung believed that by acquiring the qualities of an archetype from the collective unconscious, we repress those attributes of our true self which do not conform to the archetype.
