Nixon called a meeting of church ministers, college professors and other influencial people to persuade them to announce the plans in their sermons on the Sunday before the boycott, to distribute leaflets. And also persuade black-owned taxi companies to transport people at bus-fare rates.
The Women's Political Council stayed up half the night producing thousands of leaflets to publicize the boycott and distributed them in shops, schools, churches and bars.

For what role was Martin Luther King Jr. hired and what did he have to do?
He was a 26-year-old Baptist minister, who was invited to be the president of the MIA. He was a black highly educated person, good speaker and independent minded.
He was asked to address a mass meeting at the Holt Street Baptist Church on the evening of the initial boycott. He struck a chord with his listeners and instilled belief in their moral authority. The impact of his speech was able to inspire and galvanize the thousands who attended.
Who was Emmet Till and what happened to him?
He was a 14 year-old boy from Chicago, who in 1955 spent a summer with his relatives in the South. When leaving a shop, he said 'Bye, baby' to a white female older cashier. The woman's husband and his half brother beat him to death before dumping his body in a nearby river. When the mutilated body was found, his mother placed it in an open coffin to show what they did to him. It had a great effect on many people and encouraged them to become civil rights activists.
