IF a CURRENT client asks, "Why did you change the Curriculum?" What would you say?

While the Student Leadership Guides served our schools well, every curriculum has a life cycle. The new curriculum is designed with our latest Empowering Instruction content in mind and leverages the latest, most relevant content on our site. This product better aligns with the Student Leadership Portrait outcomes and positions us better against competitors in the market.

New schools brought into membership after September 1 will likely use the new Leader in Me curriculum. The Core 1 learning target, Teaching the 7 Habits, should be replaced with the addendum learning target, Teaching Students to Lead Themselves and Others. This Leader in Me Curriculum Booster will be available in the coach index in August. Both learning targets are 45 minutes in length.

When will schools transition to this new curriculum?

Schools have the choice to transition to the new curriculum during the 2022-2023 or 2023-2024 school years when they feel prepared to do so. We encourage all schools to explore or pilot the new curriculum this year at a minimum so they feel prepared to implement in the 2023-2024 school year.

How will this shift impact coaching, if at all?

Implementation coaching around the new curriculum will still be informed by the learning and implementation cycle. Professional learning resources like the Curriculum Toolkit and Professional Learning Video Series can be leveraged in the new learning section of a coaching session. Optionally, the 45-minute Curriculum Addendum can be used as a whole-school booster or with Teach Students to Learn Action Team

What level of preparation or "work" will this create for my teachers?

he curriculum was designed with a focus on keeping teacher preparation simple and fast. We anticipate that it should take approximately 10 minutes for the average seasoned educator to prepare for the modules each week. Teacher notes can also be accessed in the student slide view for a quick check of facilitation directions as needed.

500

How can my teachers stay on track with lessons during the year? Do you have a tool to help us do that? If so, can you tell me more?

The goal is to build the skills and competencies in students that are outlined on the Student Leadership Portrait. Each level of the Scope and Sequence document is designed for a specific school year and builds upon the competencies taught in the previous year.

500

Are their assessments in the new curriculum?

Each lesson contains formative assessment opportunities in the Invite Connections phase of the learning experience. Every module contains a more specific formative assessment opportunity in lesson 4 by way of exit tickets, accountability partner chats, teach-to-learn opportunities, and more.

The Student Leadership Assessment will be launched in August 2023.
