After Polyphemus is blinded by Odysseus, he prays to his father to make Odysseus' journey filled with conflicts, and to have the entire crew accept Odysseus die on the journey. Poseidon hears his son's prayer, and retaliates against Odysseus. Poseidon feels he is serving justice due to Odysseus' decision.
Odysseus returns to Ithaca, disguised as an old beggar. He cunningly plans his revenge against the suitors for their hostile behavior. Odysseus kills the majority of the suitors as well as the ingenuine maids of the palace. Odysseus avenges the suitors for how they treated his wife, son, and palace. Some may think Odysseus went too far, yet others feel that justice was served appropriately.
