Theme: Chosen Family
Sometimes family is not by blood, but it is the people who choose us and show us love and commitment
The Greasers are an example of Chosen Family. They take care of each other and look out for each other. Some of the boys don't have great real families, but they have the Greasers.

The Socs are wealthy while the Greasers are poor. Their lives and outlooks are very different because of this. The Greasers fight to survive, the Socs fight for fun.

Darry is strict because he has to act like a parent. He has a lot of responsibilities and is also mourning the loss of their parents.

This is questioned when Johnny killed Bob in the name of self-defense. Bob was drowning Ponyboy and we don't know if he would've stopped, or ultimately killed Ponyboy if Johnny hadn't stepped in.
