- Critical thinking: how you analyze information and form your own opinion

- Empathy: understanding other people more deeply

- Academic success: the better you are at English, the better you will be at your other classes, because you need English to understand the foundation of all other subjects

- argue: writing to form an opinion and defend it

- explain: to explain our thinking or how something is/works

Read, write, and think critically about different texts and media. Some days, we might look at stories, music, movies, shows, or more

We are reading all the time in our lives - whether it be social media, an article online, the news, or a book. Chances are, you haven't discovered WHAT you like to read yet. 

This class will ask you to think deeply about the texts we read, to make meaning of it, and to write, both from your own perspective and as a scholar.

Will we take tests?

Yes. They will look different, but you can always retake or resubmit your work for a higher grade. I am also available for tutoring if needed before school, during nutrition, and during lunch. P

There is a lot to learn, and sometimes we will struggle in this class together to get to the end. That is okay. I want you to lean into the struggles you may have. 

Don't get frustrated. I'm here to support you. Our goal is to get you to stay motivated no matter what. YOU are capable of building your skills. Nobody's perfect!

What will the outcome be if I try in this class?

You will be a better stronger, writer, and thinker. English builds your skills in every way. 

If English is a subject you struggle with, keep trying, and I promise you that it will get easier the more you practice.
