Acid precipitation is a big threat to Earth and the society. It causes a LOT of harm, like destroying forests and leaving many animal species without homes. The community needs your help, list what acid rain does to the Earth and suggest ways that people can help so the APPU (Acid Precipitation Prevention Union) can put it into a poster.

The organization will put it into a poster (You don't have to worry about it)

THE TREES ARE GETTING BURNED DOWN! ANIMALS ARE LOOSING THEIR HOMES! WATER IS GETTING POISONED AND SO IS THE AIR WE BREATH! The Earth NEEDS YOUR HELP!!! Whats happening exactly? Well the Earth is facing a great arch nemesis called acid rain, and acid rain isn't very... merciful. Acid rain destroys tree's and forests, which causes many terrestrial animals to loose their homes. Trees also help us breathe, they help keep the soil and air moist, and they even help each other! Acid rain also poisons water so aquatic ecosystems and animals can't survive. If all that happens, then there wont be much Earth left. The ground will be dry, no greenery in sight, dead fish every where, murky gross water... Yes, if we don't do something, acid rain will win this battle. And we, the people who should be caring for Earth, played big role in the rise of acid rain. We can make it get much worse, or help prevent it. One way to help prevent it is to start using more renewable energy. The gas your car releases causes chemicals to get in the air. By using a bike, electric car, or carpooling that will be reducing the risks in a great way. If everyone takes part we can end this battle, and at last Earth can be victorious!

If elements in the same family have similar physical properties then they have similar chemical properties.

The Milky way is in a group of __  _________ called the Local group. Why do you think its called the Local group?

The Milky way is in a group of '40 galaxies' called the Local group.

I think it's called the local group because the word local means belonging to a neighbourhood. That means that all those 40 galaxies are neighbours to each other, kind of like a neighbourhood.

Massooma was just recently assigned a small favour by the teacher. Since her dad works with electric circuits, the teacher asked if she could bring one from her dad so the she could do a demonstration. Unfortunately she completely forgot about that favour and now it was last minute before she had to get to school. She rummages through some of her dads old things and found a circuit still in its package. The problem is the package is old and smudged so a part of the information was blurry. She couldn't see the resistance! Her teacher also needed that information, but she doesn't really know what to do! Can you help her solve for the resistance? The information she was given on the package is the following:

Electric current: 15A

Potential difference: 110V

ResIstanCe: %#/*/?/$//?

First, write down the formula for resistance:

R= V/I

Now plug in what you know:

R= 110V/15A

R= 7.3 Ω

The resistance is 7.3Ω, now Massooma can go to school with her shoulders down! 😉

If we play our role in helping sustain ecosystems by _________ then ___________.

Example:

If we play our role in helping sustain ecosystems by using eco friendly products and minimizing carbon emissions then ecosystems will continue to grow, and air pollution will be reduced.

If quantitative properties need certain tools to determine and qualitative properties can be determined by simply observing, do you think quantitative properties are more important? Do you think otherwise? Why?

Example:

No quantitative properties are not more important than qualitative properties. This is because knowing the qualitative properties helps conduct proper experiments and helps you determine what element is which. If you didn't know the state of matter how would you know what to do and use in an experiment?

In the Hertz-Sprung Diagram, Blue stars are brighter and hotter the yellow and red stars. Shouldn't blue stars be more cool since the colour blue is a colour of the cold?

No, not necessarily. Just because blue is more of a colour of the cold doesn't mean the stars have to be cold. In the Hertz-Sprung diagram it shows blue stars to be on the hotter brighter side. In the table on page 344 of the text book, the table shows that the blue stars temperature is 35,000 when compared to the red star which is 3,300 in temperature. the blue star is brighter and hotter, although sometimes a colder star can be brighter.

Application:

If bigger cells ____________ , then ____________________________.

Example

If bigger cells have the same voltage as smaller cells but more electrolyte material, then bigger products that require batteries can use larger cells so we don't have to keep spending money to change them. The bigger cells last longer!

Apply your knowledge of appealing animals that are endangered, popular natural places, and symbols of nature. Create your own endangered animal awareness organization or a company that takes care of animals that are in need. Think of the logo (you can use an animals thats endangered as well) , the slogan (something that can catch peoples attention) , what they do (Saving animals in the wild that are in trouble or asking people to donate to companies that do that) and some info that they can add to posters or a website. Be creative!

Example:

(Awareness organization)

Name: PIHC, meaning Preventing Illegal Hunting Community.

Slogan: (Im terrible at slogans, if u managed to come up with a good one then i congratulate you!) Stop them from getting into their hands, If they want them, they have to go through us!

What the organization does: They raise money and awareness about illegal hunting. They give the donated money to companies and places that help stop the illegal hunting thats going on in many places.

Information: You can find many places that sell pets, animals, meats, any animal products. Make sure they are certified.

Many places have illegal hunters who hunt without care and help animal species get endangered than extinct. If you buy from them or support them, they will continue on that path until there is a HUGE problem.

Draw a Bohr Rutherford diagram of Magnesium. List what group its in, if its on the more reactive side and some physical properties. Label the nucleus, and an electron.

(Can't add picture of diagram)

Element: Magnesium

Group: Alkaline Earth metals

Magnesium is highly reactive with oxygen levels.

Physical properties: It's a solid, the colour is greyish white, and the texture is crystal like.

Space travel is very difficult. You have to cover the costs, get the right technology, and train for the hole process. Space travel is also really important to make more scientific advancements, so it's not just finding planets. You are being asked to write a persuasive paragraph to ask people to donate for more space travel. Include why we should donate and the hardships of space travel.

Example:

We can predict the weather, understand when and why different seasons happen, and figure out other planets that can support life by travelling into space. Space travel is important and helps us figure out a lot more of the sciences behind out planet. The things is, travelling in space is very difficult. It requires huge amounts of money, a lot of training, lots of tech, proper food, and a long ride. Companies that do space travel could use your help! If you can donate money to help cover the cost then we could afford more travel. If we can travel into space with better technology and training then we can discover more about our planet and the universe.

A company is planning on improving a circuit by adding extra wiring (even though it isn't required) and changing the material from copper to iron. You are part of the company and have a word in this decision. Suggest some reasons why they shouldn't make this change and why.

The company shouldn't make this change because extra wiring can cause more resistance which makes the current in the wire slower. Resistance is caused by friction, and friction also causes heat. The light bulb gets more heated when there is more resistance which can get the light bulb to burn easily. Also, they shouldn't change the wire from iron to copper because copper is less resistant. The material can also effect the electrical resistance as well. The company should think about these things before making those changes.
