What did Jesus mean when He used the word "blessed"? What does the word "Blessed" mean in the context of the beatitudes?
“Blessed” in this context means happy, but not the kind of happiness that comes just from getting what we want for Christmas. This happiness is the deep joy of the soul. It’s the special joy and satisfaction that come from living in a close relationship with Jesus.
What are the beatitudes?
Each of Jesus’ beatitudes tells us something about what Jesus wants our mind and heart - our attitude - to be. Jesus wants His followers to understand that true joy comes to us through fellowship with Him and mutual service to one another.
