So we learn that Jesus calls a "tax collector" to be one of his disciples. This was interesting because during this time most people avoided tax collectors.

What do YOU KNOW about tax collectors during this time that made most of the Jewish people not like them or want to be around them?

Will accept multiple answers!

They didn't have the best reputation. The Jewish people didn't want to be around them because they saw them as traitors. Tax collectors worked for the Roman government, and the Roman government ruled over the Jewish people. The Jewish people saw working as a tax collector as choosing to work for the enemy.
