CA status letter should be first sent after 40 days and then 30 days after the first notice. 

Once Property Damage COL is closed (paid, OIE, etc.) the task will no longer display.

We can check off the ATMR for California once one of the listed are completed:


  • Proof of titling state (Title or MVR)
  • Salvage Retention Acknowledgement (SRA) (may also serve as proof of titling state if OT or MVR are not available)
  • Non-Repairable Brand: Reg 480 –sign, stamp, drop file and mail original to DMV
  • Salvage Brand: Reg 481- sign, stamp, drop file and mail original to DMV

How many days does the LH have to send State Farm title once payment has been received on their end? 

California Vehicle Code Section 5753 details the requirement of the lienholder when payment for the loan is received.  The title must be received in 15 days from the date payment is received or they are required to pay a statutory penalty. FC0006013 needs to be mailed with every lienholder payment.

What storage/tow fees are presumed to be unreasonable?

  • Administrative and filing fees, except those related to filing fees from the DMV and those related to the lien sale of a vehicle;
  • Security fees;
  • Dolly fees;
  • Load and unload fees;
  • Pull-out fees; and
  • Gate fees, except when the owner or insurer requests that the vehicle be released outside of normal business hours.
  • When gate fees are reasonably assessed, any additional towing fees that exceed 10% of the normal rate due to the call originating after business hours.

What alert on the MVR indicates a restriction has been placed on the title and the vehicle cannot be transferred into someone else's name without paying a lien/fee attached to the vehicle?

VLT Stop alert - Advise the vehicle owner that SF cannot settle the claim until the customer resolves the lien attached to the vehicle and DMV must remove the VLT stop before we can resolve.

Scenario: Customer's vehicle has been lien sold and we would have to settle as a forced OR. Since TL CS is responsible for branding OR vehicles, what should we brand vehicle in this scenario if we are unable to inspect vehicle. 

Per JRs, if we are unable to inspect vehicle, we are to use the most restrictive brand

  • California does not have a definition of flood for motor vehicles and does not have a flood specific brand. Vehicles totaled by insurers due to flood will have the same branding as other vehicles totaled by insurance companies, which is “salvaged.”
