Mayella asked him to fix the door. There was nothing wrong with it. She asked him to get a box on top of a chiffarobe. When he was standing on the chair, Mayella hugged him. He jumped down and Mayella kissed him. Bob Ewell saw through the window and yelled at Mayella. Tom ran as fast as he could. He never raped or beat her.

Bob Ewell attacks Scout and Jem. He tries choking Scout but Jem pulls him off of her. Bob breaks Jem's arm and Jem is knocked unconscious. Boo Radley saves them. He stabs Bob and Bob dies. Boo carries Jem home.

Tom was sent to jail. A man tried to cut him. Tom was trying to protect himself. They were both fined. Tom couldn't pay his fine so he was sent to jail. Atticus asks this to show that Tom has nothing to hide. He is willing to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

Heck says Bob fell on his knife. He doesn't want anyone to know that Boo saved Scout and Jem. Scout agrees. She says it would be like shooting a mockingbird. Why?
A mockingbird doesn't do anything bad. It just sits there and sings so why kill it? Boo doesn't do anything wrong. He saved Scout and Jem but doesn't want the attention from people. Why embarrass him and make him feel uncomfortable. He did nothing wrong to deserve it.
