It is a sin to kill a mockingbird because they do nothing but sing for us. The mockingbirds in the novel are Boo Radley and Tom Robinson because they are innocent, well-meaning men who haven't done anything wrong.

Robert E. Lee Ewell, aka Bob, is a nasty racist drunk who accuses Tom Robinson of attacking his daughter. He then tries to kill Jem and Scout as revenge for Atticus exposing him to the community as a liar.
