When a chargeback occurs, the processor is charged fees from card brands and processing partners for investigating the chargeback and associate data transmissions. $15-$30 chargeback fees are an industry standard placed onto processors to cover these costs, and processors are saddled with these fees regardless of the chargeback outcome. It is an industry standard to pass these costs to the merchant who incurred the chargeback.
