Name one type of cariovascular disease that can be causes by tobacco

  • Heart disease: Heart disease refers to a range of conditions that affect the heart, including coronary artery disease, heart failure, and arrhythmias. It occurs when the blood vessels supplying the heart become narrowed or blocked, leading to reduced blood flow, chest pain (angina), heart attacks, and other related complications.

  • Stroke: A stroke occurs when there is a disruption of blood flow to the brain, leading to brain cell damage and potential loss of function. It can happen when a blood vessel supplying the brain is blocked (ischemic stroke) or bursts (hemorrhagic stroke). Symptoms of stroke may include sudden numbness or weakness in the face, arm, or leg, difficulty speaking or understanding speech, and trouble with coordination or balance.

  • Peripheral vascular disease: Peripheral vascular disease (PVD) refers to the narrowing or blockage of blood vessels outside the heart and brain, typically affecting the arteries that supply the legs and feet. It is commonly caused by atherosclerosis, a condition in which fatty deposits (plaque) build up inside the arteries, restricting blood flow. Symptoms of PVD may include leg pain or cramping during activity (claudication), weak or absent pulses in the legs, and slow wound healing in the lower extremities.
