To determine who would lead the Executive Branch, the Anti-Federalists and Federalists made many compromises in order to limit the powers of this office

Explain what the NW Ordinance did and what states are eventually carved out of the Northwest Territory.
Under the NW Ordinance, the NW territory was to be surveyed. Once surveyed, it was split into townships, with each township being 6 miles by 6 miles. A township was split into 36 1 mile by 1 mile sections. One of those sections had to be a school. The States that would eventually become apart of this territory were Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Illinois.
This event started out as a way to revise the Articles of Confederation, but eventually, delegates wrote a new governing document called the Constitution

4th amendment
Explain the 3/5 compromise AND why it mattered when determining power between Northern and Southern states
For every 5 slaves, 3 would count towards the population. States with a large slave population wanted every slave to be counted so their population would be higher and they would have more votes in the House of Representatives. Northern states felt that this was unfair, especially because slaves could not vote.
The government gets its power from the people. The people have the right to abolish or alter their government.
