What is a defense mechanism?
It's a mechanism our mind uses to protect or "defend" itself.
Ignore or refute an unpleasant fact or situation. This helps us through the initial trauma but then we must cope with the truth.
Denial.
A person reminds you of someone you liked or disliked and you infer they have similar characteristics and treat them accordingly.
Transference.
