What does "inactive on waitlist" mean?

A patient is still accruing time on transplant waitlist, but they need to complete requirements before becoming "active" and eligible to receive a kidney

How does someone accrue time on the transplant waitlist?

Usually, they will start counting a patient's time from the 1st date of dialysis (or when GFR is at certain range before dialysis starts)--not from date they were referred.  So, that is good news!

What are some common medical tests transplant requires during work-up (evaluation)?

Dental clearance, cancer screenings, stress test, echocardiogram, CT Scan of Abdomen & Pelvis.  **Transplant Committee may also recommend other testing based on outcomes of core testing or health history.

Does someone have to an exact match to be a living donor?

No!   Transplant centers do look at blood type, antibody levels, size of kidney/abdomen, but if these are not a good match for the recipient, then a patient/donor can consider doing a "paired match donation".

How does a patient know their status on the transplant list?

Transplant communication with the patient, SW can get direct updates through transplant center, monthly status sheets sent to dialysis center, nephrologist may have updates.  SW is required to keep transplant list up to date in CWOW.
