group therapy and talk therapy became popular towards the end of the Korean and Vietnam wars. Before PTSD was a diagnosis, soldiers were often labeled as morally weak. However, once a diagnosis was made and soldiers were able to talk amongst one another about their experiences, their symptoms lessened drastically.

Does floor staff practicing TIC make them less capable of physical intervention, if necessary, than floor staff who do not practice TIC?

No. Practicing TIC is just another tool in our tool belt. it doesn't take away any other skills that we already have. Staff have the ability to be empathetic, and still use physical intervention if the need arises. It does not have to be only one or the other.
