He was blessed with it when he was young to help him survive the harsh environments of the Nowhere. Iol had abandoned him and he was picked up by "The Strangers" who had this ability and blessed him with it.

She made a promise to her people BEFORE the Riot that she would protect them at all costs - she wanted to see if anybody survived the purging so she can save them.

Iol wanted to see how much the Travellers can take and whether or not they were strong enough to withstand battles or not. After the agreement was reached however, Iol did not really start to dictate a lot in the Nowhere.

Bird-like creatures who are meant to clean up the Nowhere of bodies and bury them accordingly. Usually emotionless and speak in crow caws. Ren joined them after being found and was essentially raised by them. Some have the power to see prophecies.

What is Story's relationship with Zephyr?
They were friends a long time ago. Meeting during the Elements of Pyre, they were close and wanted to try some things out. However, Story doesn't trust Zephyr's relation with the Nowhere + Mundor's agreement. They're on tense ground.
Why did Ren keep his prophecies a secret?
He was worried about becoming a target. He knew his knowledge was very sought after and he wanted to keep his knowledge to people he consider family (Indigo + Ivory)
What happened to Omar (Cassian's boyfriend)?
Went missing days before the Lockdown - he found out about the Nowhere and planned to share it with everyone but ended up getting found out. Cassian never learned what happened.
