Undergraduate coursework in these classes provides foundational knowledge of biological and physiological functions and chemical reactions specific to body function. This knowledge is applied to advance students’ understanding of normal function, pathophysiology, and healing processes. These courses also provide students with foundational knowledge required to understand pharmacologic concepts and the biochemical and physiological effects of drugs on the body systems.

Undergraduate courses provide basic knowledge in mechanical forces, electricity, thermal, waveforms, mechanical forces, vectors, and levers. This content is the foundation for DPT education in therapeutic agents, biomechanics, prosthetics and orthotics, and kinesiology. Physical therapy practice requires a thorough understanding of movement and the ability to apply knowledge to analyze human movement.

Undergraduate courses provide basic knowledge of anatomical and physiological structures and functions that prepare applicants for a more in-depth exploration and application required in DPT education for application to the human movement system.

Basic knowledge of this class is strengthened and applied in DPT courses related to critical inquiry, evidence-based practice, and research design. This knowledge is necessary to critical consumers of evidence and apply evidence in clinical practice.
