How many credit hours must a student be enrolled in to remain eligible for on-campus housing?

9 credit hours.

If a student mentions withdrawing from a class between the 3rd week of class until before midterm grades are posted, what should you do before discussing withdrawal options?

Ask why the student is struggling and connect them with the appropriate resources, such as tutoring or PAC for time management and study strategies. Remind them that withdrawing today versus the last day to withdraw has the same outcome, so they can use available resources and make a strong effort before deciding to withdraw.

A student majoring in Pre-Business (Marketing) informs you that they are considering withdrawing from their ISM2000 course this semester. Besides the W policy, what other policy would be important to dicuss with this student?

The COB 2 attempt policy! If this is the student's first attempt at ISM2000, they should be informed that a W counts as an attempt, and they MUST pass on their 2nd try. If this is the student's 2nd attempt, they should be informed that withdrawing from the course will require that they change their major outside of the college.

In which of the following types of withdraws are students fee liable for the course?: Withdraw, Exceptional Circumstances Withdraw (ECW), Late Withdraw

Students are fee liable when withdrawing or late withdrawing from their coursework. Students withdrawing from all classes in the current semester due to exceptional circumstances may receive a refund, less non-refundable fees, if the request for ECW is granted.

Do students have until 5 pm or 11:59 pm to withdraw from a course on the deadline?

Students have until 11:59 pm to W on the withdraw deadline. However, it is best practice to tell students to W by 5 pm in case they run into any issues and need assistance from advising.

A student emails you in a panic stating that they just withdrew from BSC1005 & BSC1005L. The student has no previous withdraws at FAU. The student is spcifically worried about how withdrawing from these courses will affect their ability to W in the future. According to policy, how many Ws will the student be allowed for the remainder of their academic career?

1 remaining lower-division withdraw and 3 remaining upper-division withdraws. Remember - 0 or 1 credit hour courses do not count towards the withdraw limit, which is why only 1 withdraw was used by the student (for BSC1005).

A student is enrolled in 15 credit hours this fall and plans to withdraw from one course (ESC2000). The student says "I saw on the academic calendar that if I W from the course by September 22nd I get a 25% tuition refund, is that true?"

The student would not be eligible for a 25% tuition refund unless they W from ALL courses in that semester. Here is the exact language on the calendar: "Students who withdraw from all full-term semester courses during the 2nd through 4th weeks of the semester [other than for exceptional circumstances] will receive a 25% refund, less non-refundable fees."

A student is enrolled in BSC1011 & L this semester. The student tells you that they are failing and interested in withdrawing from the course. The student is currently earning an F in BSC1011, but is earning a B+ in BSC1011L. How should the student proceed?

Students are able to W from the lecture and not the lab (or vice versa) of a linked science course. HOWEVER they must first submit the COS unlink form and obtain approval before withdrawing. If they do not submit the unlink form, the system will inform them that they must drop both courses if they attempt to W from one.

A student is enrolled in the following courses this fall: ENC1101, MAC1105, CHM2045 & L, & ARH2000. The student tells you that they are interested in withdrawing from their MAC1105 course as they are currently earning an F. What should the student know about how withdrawing from the course will affect their fall schedule?

Because MAC1105 is serving as a co-req to CHM2045&L, withdrawing from MAC1105 would also require that the student W from CHM2045&L. Similarly to a science lecture/lab withdraw, a message will pop up in the registration portal informing the student that they will be dropped from both courses if they attempt to W from MAC1105.
