Priya took a break from her fish tank breaking to solve a system of equations. After carefully doing all the steps in the right sequence and without making ANY errors, she ends up with this final line
1 = 2
The correct conclusion about the two lines in this sytem
What is that they are parallel (so no solution to the system)?
State whether this graph represents a function and how you know.
What is that it is not a function because it does not pass the vertical line test (some x values map to two y values)?
Simplify the following:
((x^3)^4)^-2
What is x-24?
The type of transformation shown below
What is a reflection?
Dilate the figure below around point B' by a factor of 2. Write the coordinates of the image in your response.
What is (0,0),(-4,-4),(-12,-6),(-10,4) if we start with point B and go clockwise?
The order of the following four graphs from closest to a linear model to furthest away
A B
C D
What is A,B,D,C? While D is pretty spread out, C would not fit a line at all even though it fits well with a curve

What is (-2,-4)?
The function f(x) is intended to relate the height of a burning candle to the length of time it has been burning. The dependent variable in this situation and the axis on which to graph it.

The coordinates of the image of (-3,4) after a 90 degree CCW rotation around the origin.
What is (-4,-3)? Switch the coordinates and then switch the sign of the first number.
One angle of acute triangle measures 18 degrees. The correct measure of this angle after a dilation of 1/3.
What is 18 degrees? Dilations create similar figures, so angles don't change
We all love a good point-slope equation! Write one for the points (-1, 5) and (2,3)!
What is y-5 = -2/3(x- (-1)) or
y-3 = -2/3(x - 2)
Solve this system using substitution:
y = 2x + 1
y = 3x + 2
What is (-1,-1)?
2x+1 =3x +2
-2x -2 -2x -2
-1 = x Plug into both equations.
y = -2 + 1 = -1 y = -3 +2 = -1

The number 0.01003 as a scientific notation number
What is 1.003 * 10-2?
A line segment has the points (-3,4) and (-2,6). After an unknown transformation followed by a translation, the image of the two points is (0,0) and (-1,2). The exact two transformations needed to make this happen.
What is reflect through the y axis and then translate down 3 and left 4.
(3,4) and (2,6) after a reflection through y
(0,0) and (-1,2) after the translation down 3 and left 4.
Other answers are acceptable if they are two steps with the second one a translation...
At 9AM the rocket was at 1,003 ft. At 9:03 it was at 1603 feet. If the rocket is increasing its altitude at a steady rate, what would be the slope of the equation that models its current height?
What is 200? The rocket traveled 600 feet in 3 minutes, which is 200ft/min
The equation y+1 = 5(x+3) is in point-slope form. The same equation in intercept form...
What is y = 5x + 14?
The slope is still 5. When x is zero we are on the y axis. y+ 1 = 5(0+3)
y +1 = 15
y = 14, that is the intercept
Write the system of equations that would fit this lovely little word problem.
Priya was arrested for excessive tank breaking. Sent to prison, she earns $1.50 per plate making Tesla license plates and $1 per mug for Elon mugs.
She can make 4 mugs per hour and 3 license plates per hour.
How many mugs and plates does she make if she earns $410 in 100 hours?
What is 1.5p + 1m = 380 and 3p + 4m = 100?
If you used different variables, you would have needed to assign them (e.g, x=mugs and y = plates)
A valid function is graphed below. If we graph the inverse (making x dependent on y), why the result is or is not a valid function.
What is not a valid function because the original function doesn't pass a horizontal line test -- so there are two x values for each y value?
The numbers written in scientific notation
A. 3 * 101
B. 2/3 * 104
C. 11.01 * 103
D. 1,003.01
E. -3 * 10-3
What are A and E?
We learned four types of transformations. The one that is most different mathematically from the others and why.
What is a dilation because dilated images are not normally congruent, so a dilation is not a rigid transformation?
Either "dilation changes sizes" or "dilated images are different sizes" or "dilated images are similar but the others are congruent" are all good anwers
The transformation done to get this blue pre-image to its magenta image, or a reason why you can't make an transformation work:
What is no transformation we've studied would work, because the two shapes are not similar (the second one is more elongated)?
2x + 3y = 1 is an equation in standard form. This equation's x and y intercept points (name the coordinates).
What are (1/2,0) and (0,1/3)?
Set y = 0 to find the x intercept
2x = 1 so x = 1/2
Set x = 0 to find the y intercept
3y = 1 y = 1/3
The proposed solution to this equation is (4,2). Confirm or correct.
3x + y = 14
2x + y = 13
What is incorrect because the solution doesn't work with the second equation. The correct solution is (1,11)?
Farmer Flo has a really big cylindrical silo. It is 25 feet tall and has a diameter of 20 feet. Its exact volume with correct units.
What is 2500pi ft^3?
pi * 102 for the base times the height of 25
The order these would be in from left to right on a number line:
pi^-3, 2.03 * 10^-1, 2.04 * 10-3,
-2.04 * 10^3, 0, 1, 5/4
What is -2.04 * 103, 0, 2.04*10-3,pi-3,
2.03*10-1,1,5/4?
The new coordinates of point (-4,-5) after the following three-step transformation
Reflect through x
Dilate by a factor of 2 using (1,1) as the center of dilation
Translate up 10 and right 5
What is (-4,19)?
Reflection takes us to (-4,5)
That is five left and four up from (1,1) so we need to be 10 left and 8 up. That is (-9,9)
After translating 5 right and 10 up, we are at (-4,19)
The price of potatoes will increase by 14% this year. There are 7 family members at the table but only about 60% eat potatoes. Half of those will use ketchup. Ketchup in the bottle decreases by 1/4 ounce at each meal. 50% of the time the family eat 3 meals with ketchup a day; the rest of the time they eat a meal with ketchup only once a day. The rate at which the amount of ketchup changes based on the meals at which it is eaten.
What is -1/4 ounce?
Since all we care about is how much ketchup is eaten per meal at which ketchup is served, all the other information is irrelevant. The number must be negative to show that the amount is decreasing.
Priya uses her vicious fangs to rip holes in Jada's new giant fish tank. Jada frantically pours in 65 gallons of water per minute to try to keep the tank filled. The tank had 1300 gallons of water when the toothy attack occurred two minutes ago. There are 4 holes that are each leaking 18 gallons of water per minute. The intercept form equation that models the current situation of the tank (must be in the required format for an intercept form equation).
What is y = -7x+1286?
4*18 = 72 72-65 = 7. The tank is losing 7 gallons per minute. It started with 1300 and has been leaking for 2 minutes, so it currently has 1300-14 or 1286 gallons of water. 1300 doesn't work, because that is the value of y when x=-2.
The error in this solution:
{y= 3x + 2 3y = 2x + 1
y = 3x + 2 y = 2/3x + 1/3 divide by 3
3x + 2 = 2/3x +1/3 substitute for y
9/3x + 6/3 = 2/3x + 1/3 common denom
7/3x = -5/3 simplify
x = -5/3 * 3/7 = -5/7 *3/7
What is that we found x but forgot to find y?
