Though originally named Jump Man, the name Mario came about when Shigeru Miyamoto, the character's creator, named him after the company's landlord, Mario Segale, although the character kept Jumpman as his surname.

Um, actually, Mario's surname is not Jumpman; his real surname is Mario, meaning his full name is Mario Mario.

Harry Potter

The character of Albus Dumbledore, played by Richard Harris and Michael Gambon in the films, is not the only character to be played by more than one actor. Katie Bell, Angelina Johnson, Pansy Parkinson, and Peeves the Poltergeist were all recast between the seven films.

Um, actually, Peeves the Poltergeist does not appear in the Harry Potter movies.

Lord of the Rings

One of the earliest attempts to adapt "The Lord of the Rings" to the screen was by The Beatles. It was to feature original songs by The Beatles, with Paul McCartney as Frodo, Ringo Starr as Sam, George Harrison as Gandalf, and John Lennon as Aragorn. The project was cancelled because Tolkien disliked The Beatles' music.

Um, actually, John Lennon was not going to be Aragorn; he was going to be Gollum.

D&D

Demons and Devils in Dungeons and Dragons are not the same entities. Demons are chaotic neutral creatures living in the Abyss that lack reason and organisation, whilst Devils, such as imps, quasits, and pit fiends, are lawful evil creatures found primarily in the Nine Hells.

Um, actually, demons are classed as chaotic evil creatures.

Oxygen, with the chemical symbol of O2, is a colorless, odorless, tasteless gas and a chemical element crucial for most life and for combustion. It makes up about 21% of Earth's atmosphere and is essential for processes like cellular respiration, where organisms use it to release energy from nutrients.

Um, actually, the Chemical symbol is only O.

Sonic

Sonic the Hedgehog is a titan of the video game scene, with many other characters from his franchise also being based on real-life animals. Tails is a two-tailed fox, Knuckles is an echidna, and Amy is also a hedgehog. Other unique characters include Vector as an alligator, Espio as a chameleon, and Fang as a jerboa.

Um, actually, Vector is a crocodile, not an alligator

Double Points! Star Wars

In the Star Wars universe, lightsabers get their unique colours from a combination of the kyber crystal within the hilt and the bond with the Force user. Naturally, these colours can be blue, green, yellow, orange, white, and purple. However, these crystals can be corrupted by strong negative emotions to create red and black sabres used primarily by the Sith.

Um, actually, the white colour is not a natural colour that a kyber crystal can produce; it can only be done to a pre-existing kyber colour. Additionally, there is only one black lightsaber in existence, and it was specially crafted by the first Mandalorian Jedi.

The Wheel of Time

The Wheel of Time series, written by Robert Jordan, began with the publication of The Eye of the World in 1990 and concluded 23 years later with the final installement, A Memory of Light.

Um, actually, Robert Jordan died before the completion of the last book, and Brandon Sanderson completed it with notes from Jordan.

Yu-Gi-Oh!

Yu-Gi-Oh! originated as a Japanese manga by Kazuki Takahashi, serialised from 1996 to 2004, featuring Yugi Mutou and a spirit trapped within a puzzle box partaking in the Duel Monsters card game. This led to a global phenomenon encompassing anime, video games, and the best-selling trading card game by Konami.

Um, actually, Yu-Gi-Oh started as a horror manga about an ancient spirit that punishes wicked people by subjecting them to cruel and sadistic games.

Bernoulli's principle, in fluid dynamics, states that an increase in the speed of a fluid occurs simultaneously with a decrease in pressure or a decrease in the fluid's potential energy. It is the principle used to explain how boats float.

Um, actually, Bernoulli's principle explains why aeroplanes fly based on the rapid movement of air over the wing, creating lower pressure. Archimedes' principle explains why boats float.

Rainbow Siege

Rainbow Six Siege offers the player a choice between many characters with different and interesting gadgets. While not all of them use technology-based gadget, such as Goyo's explosive shield or Sledge's tactical sledgehammer, they all have some sort of gadget-ability unique to their character.

Um, actually, there is a character (Oryx) who does not use any gadget; his unique ability is just being really athletic.

Devil Fruits are quite peculiar in how they work, especially Logias. Logias lets you become, create, and control a certain substance. Some logias that exist are the flare-flare, which lets you control fire; glint-glint, which lets you control light; mochi-mochi, which lets you control mochi; and rumble-rumble, which lets you control lightning.

Um, actually, the Mochi-Mochi fruit is a special Paramecia, not a Logia.

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz

In L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Dorothy aquires a pair of ruby slippers after accidentaly killing the Wicked Witch of the East. These slippers are ultimately the method by which she returns to Kansas.

Um, actually, the slippers were silver.

Catan

Catan is a popular strategy board game where 5-6 players become settlers on the island of Catan, gathering resources (wood, brick, sheep, grain, ore) by rolling dice to build roads, settlements, and cities, aiming to be the first to reach 10 victory points through building and development.

Um, actually, Catan's player number caps out at 3-4.

Venomous creatures are on of the most serious risks facing those who spend a lot of time outdoors. Since you can never be sure what may bite you, those most concerned about risk can spend several hundred dollars for universal antivenom, that will neutralize venom from all spiders, insects and snakes.

Um, actually, universal antivenom does not exist. Your best chance is to remember as much about the creature (color, size, etc.) that bit you to tell medical professionals.

Mortal Combat

In the first Mortal Kombat game, a player can unlock Reptile as a playable character if they achieve a double flawless victory in a single player mode on the Pit stage and finish the match with a fatality, if there is also a silhouette flying past the moon (which occurs every sixth game).

Um, actually, you can do this in order to play against Reptile, but you cannot play as Reptile until the second Mortal Kombat II.

Frozen

In the movie Frozen, Elsa creates 2 living snowmen. One being Olaf, who helps Anna and Kristoff in their journey to find Elsa, and Frost, an enormous icy snowman born from Elsa's powers. He serves as a brute bodyguard charged with keeping intruders away from her ice palace.

Um, actually, the icy snowman who serves as a bodyguard is actually named Marshmallow

Double Points! His Dark Materials

Lyra Belequa's daemon, Pantalaimon, is an animal companion capable of changing shape and, in some way,s represents Lyra's soul. Most often he is seen in the form of a lynx. In Lyra's world, people's daemons change shape all the time to reflect their mood or personality, until the person dies.

Um, actually, most peoples daemon's only change shape until puberty, and then stay one animal the rest of their life. Additionally, Pan is never seen as a Lynx.

Cluedo

In the 1940s, Anthony and Elva Pratt applied for a provisional patent for their new mystery-based board game, then called Murder!. Gamemakers at Waddingtons found this title too harsh, in light of World War II, and so it was changed to Cluedo. A mash-up of the words ‘clue’ and ‘ludo’, the Latin word for ‘murder’. When it got sent to America, they didn’t like the fuddy-duddy Latin bit and just called it ‘Clue’.

Um, actually, Ludo is Latin for "I play".

One of the most important parts of car ownership and maintenance is knowing when to replace certain parts. Generally speaking, your battery should be replaced every 4-5 years, your air filter should be replaced every 3-4 years, and your windshield wiper blades replaced every 2-3 years.

Um, actually, it is recommended to replace your windshield wipers every 6-12 months.

Subnautica

The world of Subnautica can be quite scary. The further you progress, you will find massive Leviathan-class creatures like the Reaper, Sea Dragon, and Ghost living deep beneath the surface in environments where they are dangerous apex predators.

Um, actually, the Reaper Leviathan is not only found in the depths, but it can be seen near the surface, circling your crashed ship.

Marvel 

The Infinity Stones were introduced across multiple Marvel movies, but the order they first appeared in the MCU goes as follows: The Space Stone in the Tesseract, the Reality Stone in the Aether, the Power Stone in the Orb, the Mind Stone in Vision's head, the Time Stone in the Eye of Agamotto, and the Soul Stone on Vormir.

Um, actually, the Mind Stone was the second stone introduced in the MCU, which featured in The Avengers film, within Loki's Sceptre.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Charlie and The Chocolate Factory is a beloved story about a group of children who are gradually maimed and deformed by a loner in a candy factory. Augustus Gloop is sucked though a tube in a chocolate river, Violet Beauregard turns into a blueberry after eating experimental gum, Veruca Salt is sent down a trash chute after demanding a goose that lays golden eggs, and Mike Teavee is shrunk by television chocolate technology.

Um, actually, Veruca Salt demands a squirrel that can sort nuts.

Double Points! Warhammer 40k

Space Marines (and power armours in general) were heavily influenced by the book Starship Troopers. Starship Troopers is a military science fiction novel by American writer Robert A. Heinlein. It was written in a few weeks in response to the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962.

Um, actually, the book was written in response to the United States suspending nuclear tests in 1959.

Sushi is a traditional Japanese dish consisting of specially prepared vinegared rice (shari) paired with various ingredients, or neta, such as raw or cooked seafood, vegetables, or egg.

Sushi takes its name from the raw fish it is served with, though it can be served in various forms.

Um, actually, the word Sushi refers to the vinegared rice.
