Who is an academic advisor?
This place is here to ensure no Roo goes without. They are a resource for all UMKC students that provides food and personal hygiene items for those in need. You can check out their website for more information on hours, locations, and services provided.
What is the Dr. Raj Bala Agrawal Care Center or Kangaroo Pantry?
This is your way to connect to student organizations, communicate with other members and discover events happening on campus. Bonus points if you can find a upcoming event hosted by First Gen Roos
What is Roo Groups?
All scholarships, grants, loans, and other forms of monetary support that students may be eligible to receive. There is an entire department on campus devoted to helping students find and apply for this.
What is Financial aid?
This is a written course outline provided by faculty to students in individual courses during the first week of the semester. It contains important course information including instructor contact information, course policies, learning outcomes, and schedule.
What is a syllabus?
This person is in charge of a UMKC program area (e.g., the BLANK of the College of Arts and Science).
Who is the Dean?
This place provides access to health clinics, mental health resources, and accessibility services to make your time on campus as successful as possible.
What is Roo Wellness?
An online system used by professors at UMKC. They use it to organize course materials, store documents, and to post quizzes and assignments. Students should change the settings in here to alert them of due dates and messages.
What is Canvas?
An online application that is the main source of student financial aid. Every eligible student should apply for the this each school year.
What is Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)?
The week immediately following the last school day of each semester. There are no classes, but many courses require final exams and other assignments to be taken during this week. Bonus: Can you name the day before this week that some schools use to study and cancel classes?
What is finals week? (Bonus: Reading Day)
This person assists instructors during a course including teaching the course, grading, and assisting students with extra help.
Who is a Teaching Assistant (TA)?
This place houses the "Roobot" a giant inventory system to help keep track of the items stored here.
What is the Miller Nicholas Library?
This is a central location for faculty, advisors, student services, and students to communicate and collaborate on a strategic plan for each student's academic success and keep students connected with campus resources that are an important part of their academic achievement. Bonus points if you can find your advisor's next available appointment
What is connect?
Work experience intended to enhance your exposure to a particular field or job. Many majors require students to complete this before graduation. Students should speak with their advisor about opportunities and requirements. Bonus point if you can find a local example of one
What is an internship?
Are set regular times each week where professors meet with students and/or walk-in appointments throughout each semester they are teaching. Often, if you can’t make it to an instructor’s this you can arrange to meet with him/her to schedule an alternative time.
What are office hours?
This person is a leader of a college or university, usually either the executive or ceremonial head of the university or of a university campus within a university system.
Who is the Chancellor?
Career services offer this where students can choose five pieces of clothing or accessories from a wide range of professional apparel to wear for interviews, internships, career fairs, or any other occasion.
What is the Professional Wardrobe Studio?
This is the main tool students at UMKC use to see what they own, accept scholarships and awards, register for classes, view grades, and update contact information, among other functions.
What is pathway?
This is a form of need-based student financial aid that undergraduate and graduate students earn through part-time employment, on or off-campus. Students who are awarded this receive the funds in a paycheck as they earn them, based on hours worked, just like a normal job. These earnings are meant to help with the day-to-day expenses that students have and are not meant to cover large costs like tuition and housing.
What is work-study?
Using this of a class, a student can estimate the amount of time spent outside class for studying. For each one, if this is spent in class, a student should spend the same time outside of class studying.
What is a credit hour?
This person is a faculty member who is contracted by UMKC to teach part-time.
What is an Adjunct Professor?
This is the place for students to take care of their core business transactions related to Admissions, Financial Aid and Scholarships, Cashiers, and Registration and Records.
What is UMKC Central?
This is a personal username assigned by the university, used to Canvas, Pathway, and other UMKC-associated programs. This is also the beginning of your assigned UMKC email address.
What is a Single Sign On (SSO)?
This is a budget that includes the estimated costs a typical student may incur while attending UMKC. These costs include tuition and fees, housing and meals, books and supplies, personal expenses, and transportation. This determines how much financial aid you are eligible to receive and it can vary based on your enrollment and program. This is an estimate and so your personal expenses may be different based on individual circumstances.
What is the cost of attendance (COA)?
This is points per semester hour for a B+ in a class. HINT: This reflects how your GPA is calculated
