Turtwig is from Gen 4, its supposed to be Treeko.

In the very first episode of Pokemon, ash wakes up late to choose his first pokemon, and by the time he arrives, they are all gone. Luckily, Professor Oak had one more pokemon. A Pikachu. Ash and Pikachu were both overjoyed, and he took his new trusty along companion. The two of them eventually ran into Misty, and wild pack of Spearows, to which Pikachu jumped in and saved the day.
Pikachu hated ash in the beginning, and wouldnt listen to him. the spearow incident is when they bonded for the first time
