Joseph was to be the earthly father as well as a descendant of David. It was difficult because Mary was a virgin but somehow pregnant. God also talked to Joseph in multiple visions, whether to confirm about Mary being pregnant from the Holy Spirit and also to pack their stuff and move to Egypt.
