Height
The perpendicular distance from a base to the opposite side.
Product
The result of multiplication.
A three-dimensional figure whose base is a polygon and whose other faces are triangles. A pyramid is named by the shape of its base.
Variable
A letter that stands for an unknown number. In some cases, a variable may represent more than one number.
Prime Number
A whole number greater than 1 whose only factors are 1 and itself.
Parallelogram
A quadrilateral with opposite sides parallel and equal in length.
Difference
The result of subtraction.
Net
A flat, “unfolded” representation of a three-dimensional shape.
Term
A number, a variable, or a product of numbers, variables, and/or expressions. A term may include an exponent.
Relate to
To connect one thing to one or more other things.
Area
The amount of space inside a closed two-dimensional figure, measured in square units such as square centimeters.
Polygon
A two-dimensional closed figure made with three or more straight line segments that meet only at their endpoints.
Surface Area
The sum of the areas of all the faces of a three-dimensional figure.
Coefficient
A number that is multiplied by a variable.
Exponent
In a power, the number that shows how many times the base is used as a factor.
Perpendicular
Meeting to form right angles.
Expression
A group of numbers, variables, and/or operation symbols that represents a mathematical relationship. An expression without variables is called a numerical expression; one with variables is called an algebraic expression.
A three-dimensional figure with two parallel bases that are the same size and shape, with the other faces being parallelograms. A prism is named by the shape of its base.

An expression that consists of a base and an exponent.
Decompose
To break into parts, either numbers or shapes.
Represent
To use as a sign, symbol, or example for something.
Vertical
Positioned up and down rather than side to side
Quotient
The result of division.
Factor
A number or expression that is multiplied to form a product.
