300

Mortality relates to death, particularly at a population level
300

Explain how the sociocultural factor, education, can act as a barrier to healthy eating for youth

Having low levels of education may mean that youth don't understand the negative impacts of consuming a diet high in fats and sugar. This may mean that youth are more likely to consume more foods high in these risk nutrients.

300

Explain the role of calcium in the body AND identify a food source

Health is a complete state of physical, social and mental health and not just when someone doesn't have a disease

Strength: Includes multiple dimensions of health and wellbeing and therefore goes beyond just the physical dimension.

Limitation: It relates to a ‘complete’ state of wellbeing which is often difficult to achieve.

Explain how the pre-requisites of Income and food can promote health and wellbeing

  • Education: Having access to high quality and equitable primary and secondary school increases literacy and numeracy skills. This empowers people like Kiah to gain meaningful and well-paid employment. This means she can afford health promoting resources such as nutritious foods which can boost immune system function, promoting her physical health and wellbeing.

  • Education: Having education, through school, can promote opportunities for people to socialise and build new social connections with other people with shared interests. This can build one’s self-esteem and confidence as they feel valued, promoting mental health and wellbeing.

  • Food: Having food security where people can obtain nutritionally adequate, culturally appropriate, and safe food regularly, ensures that people receive the energy they need. This promotes the functioning of the body and its system and supports people like complete daily tasks

  • Income: If households have access to a sufficient and reliable source of income, they are more likely to be able to afford to pay for shelter and bills, therefore not having to worry about their ability to pay, decreasing stress.

400

Explain what is meant by burden of disease (3 points)

  • A measure of the impact of disease and injury

  • The gap between current health status and an ideal situation where everyone lives to an old age free of disease and disability.

  • Burden of disease is measured in a unit called DALY.

  • It takes fatal and non-fatal impacts into account.

400

Explain how peer group can impact prevalence of injuries for youth

Peer group: Young men may be more susceptible to the influence of peer group who may encourage risk taking behaviour. This can lead to dangerous and unsafe behaviour such as skylarking, increasing prevalence of injuries

400

Describe a long term consequence of the overconsumption of saturated fat on health status

Identify a youth health issue (The issue you completed your AOS2 SAC about) and describe the impact of this youht health issue on two dimensions of health and wellbeing

When people smoke cigarettes or vapes, chemicals enter the blood stream which damage the blood vessel walls and narrow the arteries, increasing blood pressure, negatively impacting physical health and wellbeing.

Smoking and vaping can lead to lower levels of fitness. This can mean that people can’t perform physically to the ability they once could. This could lead to reduced self-esteem and lower mental health and wellbeing.

500

Explain how sodium can impact health status

Sodium draws fluid out of cells and into the blood stream, increasing blood volume, increasing blood pressure. This can increase mortality due to heart attack

500

Explain how  health literacy can increase rates of injuries for youth

Health Literacy: Youth may have lower health literacy then adults and choose to ignore health issues that result from injuries, such as infections. Delaying medical treatment may then leading to a greater DALY from infected injuries among youth compared to adults.

500

Explain the health star rating as a food selection model (3 points)

  • The Health Star Rating system is a system developed by the Federal Government.

  • The Health Star Rating system can assist consumers in identifying food options by looking for the number of stars, the more stars the healthier the food item.

  • The initiative shows a number of stars from half to five, based on how healthy the product is in relation to other, similar products.
