It is a step by step process to find an answer to a question or problem.
These cells cover and protect our bodies?
Skin Cells
Define cells.
A cell is a basic unit of life. Cells are also the smallest thing that can be called "alive". Cells carry out many jobs (functions) such as to protect and cover (Skin Cells).
Name at least three functions of cells.
Cells carry out many jobs (functions):
1. Cover and protect (Skin Cells)
2. To allow for movement (Muscle Cells)
3. To support and protect our bodies (Bone cells)
4. To send and receive messages (Nerve cells)
5. To transport materials and fight disease (Blood Cells)
In Step 3 of the Scientific Method a person forms a hypothesis. What is a hypothesis?
A hypothesis is a possible solution to a question or problem. (Overall, it is a prediction of an outcome.)
What 5 parts of an animal are made up of cells?
All parts of an animal are made up of cells. These parts include the following:
1. blood
2. muscles
3. bone
4. skin
5. nerves
What are the simplest, single cells that carry out all the basic life activities?
Bacteria are the simplest, single cells that carry out all basic life activities.
How many bones are in the human body?
Humans have 206 bones in their body.
In what format should you write a hypothesis?
You should write a hypothesis in the following format:
"If___________then______________ will happen"
(I do) (this)
What type of muscle cells are not controlled by us?
Example: Lungs and Digestive System
Involuntary muscle cells
Define organelles.
Organelles are tiny structures inside a cell which have specific functions to keep cells alive.
What plant organ makes it food?
The leaves of a plant make food.
After performing an experiment, describe what you should do next.
After an experiment, I should first analyze the data to find out if my hypothesis works. Then I should draw conclusions. Overall, if my hypothesis is incorrect, then I should re-think my hypothesis.
Which cells have organelles like the nucleus (DNA), mitochondria and a cell membrane?
Bone cells
What coordinates all of your body parts?
The nervous system coordinates all of our body parts. It also is the body's communication network.
True or False: A heart is a tissue
False.
A heart is an organ.
Hearts pump blood through your body.
FYI:
Organs= different kinds of tissues join together to form an organ
Tissues=groups of cells that are similar and act together to do a specific job
What is an inference?
An inference is a conclusion based on an observation and a person's prior knowledge.
What do blood cells do? Give at least 2 functions (jobs) of blood cells.
Blood cells do the following:
1. Transport and carry materials
2. Fight disease
3. Deliver nutrients from the digestive system to the cells
4. Carry waste products to the lungs, kidneys and digestive system
5. Delivers oxygen
Define the central nervous system.
The central nervous system is made of the brain and the spinal cord. This system controls the activities of the body.
Describe the difference between microscope and electron microscope?
(Regular) Microscopes use beams of light to help us see tiny objects. Overall, microscopes magnifying objects so a person can see tiny objects that they can not see with the naked eye.
However, electron microscopes use beams of tiny particles to magnify objects more so people can see objects that are not clearly visible.
