What are the steps to convert a repeating decimal to a fractions?

1. Assign the decimal as the variable.

2. Multiply by 10 (or 100, 1000, etc)

3. Subtract the variable from one side and the repeating decimal from the other.

4. Divide to solve for the variable.

How do we estimate square roots that ARE NOT PERFECT SQUARES?

We determine the perfect square above and below. Then, we estimate by trial and error until close enough. Our answer is an approximation.

How do we find roots of perfect squares and perfect cubes?

We look for what numbers would be squared or cubed to that perfect square or perfect cube. If it is a square root, we know the answer could be positive or negative. We know a cube root can only be positive or negative.

IE:

Finding the root. So the inverse of squared is square root. The inverse of cubed is cube root.

How do we write a large/small number in scientific notation?

We move the decimal until there is ONE NON-ZERO digit in front of the decimal creating the Mantissa. Rewrite as an expression with the Mantissa multiplied by a power of 10 based upon the number of places we moved the decimal.

Change the smaller exponent if needed. Add or subtract the Mantissas. Keep the exponent. Confirm the answer is in SN.
