Calculate the energy at each trophic level if the producer has 10,000 J of energy. When you draw an energy pyramid, which trophic level is at the bottom of the pyramid?
Producer: starts at bottom- 10,000 J
PC- 1,000 J
SC- 100 J
TC- 10 J
Caterpillars feed on the leaves of the nettle and are protected from predators by the stinging hairs on the plant. In return, the caterpillars help to pollinate the nettles as they feed on them.
What type of symbiotic relationship is this?
Mutualism
Surprise! It's a characteristic of life question. What are the definitions of biotic and abiotic? Give an example of each
Biotic- living
Abiotic- non-living
How would one decrease the rate of photosynthesis? Explain
Decrease carbon dioxide, water, and/ or sunlight because they are the reactants
How would one decrease the rate of cellular respiration? Explain
Decrease oxygen and/or glucose because they are the reactants
Calculate the energy at each trophic level if the secondary consumer has 50 J of energy. When you draw an energy pyramid, which trophic level is at the top of the pyramid?
Producer: starts at bottom- 5,000 J
PC- 500 J
SC- 50 J
TC: at the top- 5 J
A tree provides shelter and protection to the bird without getting significantly harmed or affected by the bird.
What type of symbiotic relationship is this?
Commensalism
Surprise! It's actually a photosynthesis/ cellular respiration question!
What would happen to the rate of cellular respiration if the amount of sunlight plants get goes down. Why?
The rate of CR would decrease. The rate of photosynthesis would decrease because sunlight is necessary for photosynthesis, which means they will produce products (oxygen and glucose) slower. Because the products of P are the reactants of CR, CR would decrease proportionally as well.
