The currency was a coin system and was effective because a lot of other civilizations also followed the same currency.

Athen's relied on trading with other civilizations because of the mountainous terrain and hot climate that did not provide fertile soil. Money also came heavily form tourists and people purchasing things form the AGORA.

What did the Spartan economy rely on.

Spartans used a system of iron bars however, it was not a good currency as Sparta did not trade that much so other nations did not accept it.

Spartan economy relied on stealing from others, conquering and did also trade with very few other civilizations.

What was a Palace economy and what type of goverment was it?

The palace economy had 1 king or queen, farm owners and workers. The workers work in the fields and have to give 40% of their earnings to the farmer. They then have to give 20% of their produce to their ruler. The ruler then decides to either keep it for themselves, help citizens by paying it back out or to trade it for other necessary supplies.

This was a monarchy because of how the royal family had all the power and power was inherited from the family.

The difference would be that in a direct democracy, citizens share power with each other by voting on laws however, a representative democracy has citizens to vote for a representative to control power and pass laws.

What were women in athens not allowed to do?

They cannot inherit property, they cannot attend assembles, and cannot vote. They were also not allowed to leave their property without an male.

What were women in Sparta allowed and expected to do?

Women were able to own land, can leave their property by themselves and can also remarry/divorce. 

Women were expected to have strong babies, be able to dance gracefully, and had to have talent in art. If a women died while giving birth, she was given a tombstone for a sacrifice.

Why did Sparta and Athens first start off with a monarch to a tyranny and finally oligarchy or also a direct democracy?(Oligarchy was only Sparta)

Power was first invested to only a royal family. This kept control to one person for the entire civilization. Citizens realized that this was heavily unbalanced and people started to favor tyrants than supposed monarchs. 

Tyranny than controlled rule for a while until citizens realized again that too this was also unfair. To fix this, athens overthrew their tyrant and replaced it with a direct democracy so the people had all the power equally now. On the other hand, parta then became a oligarchy and direct democracy. However, power was not given to the citizens as they intended because oligarchs higher up, were able to control everything.

The difference is that a oligarchy allows only a few type of people to control power while a theocracy is religious system to control the government and country.

Work they had would be farm work, house/office work and mining for materials like silver. Slaves had no rights and were not counted as citizens as they were either war prisoners but usually people who could not pay their debt.

Slaves were treated harshly and helots were rounded up and killed if they were strong. This happened because they didn't want them to overthrow.

How did geography affect the city-state of athens?

Geography of athen affected it drastically because the warm climate and mountainous terrain caused infertile soil and harder materials to find. Trees were cut down quickly with this so the peninsula ran out of some materials. To fix this, athens started trading with other civilizations for these materials that brought it's economy up.

On the other hand Sparta instead of trading to fix this solution, started conquering for materials and for free labor. They instead created a strong army instead of a strong economy like Sparta.

A pro would be that a peninsula shaped provide it fishing, shiping, and trading routes. Mountainous geography blocked invaders from the a North and the seas protected the south.

I con would be that the the mountainous land blocked communication, travel, and farming.

Who was allowed to be educated in Athens and what type of education did they recieve.(Values in life)

Free male citizens were allowed education and they learned about their religion, art, sports(olympics), and gods. Students were expected to go to the military school at age 18 but, only ahd to serve at least 2 years.

Male citizens were allowed basic education and skills. Boys at age 7 attended military school(Agoge) to become a warrior/soldier. These boys participated in physical training, bullying, fighting, and stealing were promoted.

 If caught stealing, they would be punished for being found only. 

Boys were also whipped at an altar as well as given little food and bad clothes for endurance.

What were babies checked for in Sparta?

Babies were tested from elders for strength as the community was only built for the supposed strong. Babies that weren't counted as strong, were left on top of a mountain to die as they were not needed.

Greek grew shrubs for animal and grapes were used for things like wine. Another food would be olives that were used to light lamps and for oils for the body. A natural sweetener would be honey and wheat would come from trading.

What type of government did athens mainly use and what were the different positions in this government. What requirements were needed for each of these positions in the goverment.

The government that Athens used was a direct democracy were citizens vote on laws. 

The council of 500 meet everyday , ran day day functions and suggested laws. A lottery choose these 500 men but had to be a free male citizen and at least 30 years old.

The assemble people were free male citizens that are at least 18 years or older. They debated and voted on laws from the council.

The 10 generals served as judges and were military leaders during a conflict/war.

The council of elders had 2 kings and 28 members. The kings inherited power and one would go off to war while another would stay in Sparta. Thr requirements was to be a male citizen that wa 60 years old and had to come form a noble family. The responsibilities would be to prepare laws for the assembly and had power to veto laws at an assembly.

The assembly itself hade rquirement of being 30 years or older and to be a male citizen. Responsibility would be to vote for laws by seeing which side scream the loudest.

5 ephors were male citizens over the age of 30. They were elected yearly for the assembly and had the supreme(MOST) power to override an assembly.

The most productive government would be a monarchy or tyranny because only one person made decisions for everything

The most fair was a direct democracy as all citizens were allowed a say and power was distributed equally.(Even if sparta gave fake power)
