The compromise was a temporary measure but basically allowed for 3 out of every 5 slaves to be counted towards the population.

The importation ban of 1807 banned the importation of slaves into America. This causes the Domestic Slave Trade to ramp up in the 1820s.

The act forced Northerners to return any runaway slaves that they encountered or else they would face harsh penalties. The world became more dangerous for freed African-Americans because slave catchers would often assume all African-Americans were slaves and would take illegally take freed African-Americans back to the south and sell them.

Soujourner Truth was a former slave in New York, after an abolitionst bought her freedom she joined the cause and shared her story about slavery. 

Her major accomplishment was that she won a court case against a white male after her son was illegally kidnapped and sold in the South. This was a major step forward for both African-Americans and Women.

Popular Sovereignty allowed for the people of the territory to decide whether or not they wanted slavery in their state. The problem with it was that since there was no official documentation of who lived there border ruffians would cross over and illegally vote, causing the outcome to be heavily sided towards slavery.

The Sacking of Lawrence was the final straw for John Brown and influenced him to commit his acts of violence in Kansas. John Brown was known for giving land to fugitive slaves and investing in rebellious abolitionists ideas (David Walker's writings).
